BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

ANGELA GRAHAM [Associate of the Museums Association; The History of Design and the Visual Arts BA (hons); CIM Diploma in Tourism Marketing] joined Nantwich Museum in October 2011, but she was a well-known face at the museum in 1995 when she undertook her first volunteer role in the Museum world.

She has since spent 16 years in the museums sector, starting work for Stoke-on-Trent Museum Service. Her career began at Gladstone Pottery Museum as a Costumed Interpreter and later as an Education Officer.

In 1999, Angela was appointed Manager of Ford Green Hall, a 17th century house at Burslem, Staffordshire, and subsequently as Assistant Branch Museums Manager, managing both Ford Green Hall and Etruria Industrial Museum.

Her most recent role was as Support and Development Manager based at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery where she was a member of the senior management team and managed a wide range of areas across the service.

The role of Business Development Manager is a new one at Nantwich, and Angela works with Kate Dobson (right) and Fiona Swain, Administration Assistant.

She focuses on income generation, museum accreditation and the management of volunteers. She is establishing reliable funding by identifying suitable grants, establishing partnership arrangements, and fund-raising activities, etc.

It is the Development Manager's task to identify where additional volunteers are required and ensure through training that they have the necessary skills.

COMMUNITY LEARNING OFFICER

Kate Dobson

KATE DOBSON [M.A. in Museum Studies; M.A. in Historical Research (Distinction); B.A. (hons) in History (2:1)] has volunteered at Nantwich Museum since 2008, with the experience encouraging her to pursue the MA in  Museum Studies.

Initially, she was involved with working on the Museum Desk, greeting visitors and dealing with queries. She has also been involved in fundraising and has been present for new exhibits and events such as Holly Holy Day.

After gaining four A-levels and an AS-level at Malbank School and Sixth Form, she gained her B.A. (hons) and an M.A. at Lancaster University followed by an M.A. at Leicester  University.

She had previously been on placement at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, in the Department for Informal Learning, which is part of the Education Department.
She has also been involved in the organisation and co-ordination of groups of children as a volunteer and Level 2 coach at Crewe and Nantwich Athletics Club.

Kate, who is 26, enjoys a range of sporting activities such as squash and running and is also a member of the National Trust and the Museum Society.

She joined us in September 2010.

 . . . and former staff

OUR FIRST Curator, appointed in 1978, was Ian Edelman. He created the first museum displays in the old library building and collected many of the artifacts that are still on display. The Museum Shop was introduced in September 1979 at Ian's suggestion. He moved on in 1981 leaving a thriving new museum to work in Wiltshire. He became Web Manager for the Hampshire Museums Service in 1998, having worked in curatorial roles for the service since 1987. He is currently Web Manager for Hampshire's Culture, Communities and Business Services. Read more about Ian at www.edelman.org.uk. Picture: Ian Edelman

SUSAN PRITCHARD was Curator of the Museum for 27 years before she retired in October 2008. She is still a resident of the Nantwich area. One of her major achievements was to gain Accreditation status for the Museum from the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (an award now administered by Arts Council, England). She was also responsible for the launch of the Museum's website in February 2002.

ALLISON KIRK was the first Community Learning Officer at the Museum - thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. She was responsible for aspects of the Museum's outreach to local people - adults and children. She involved schools in the attraction of the Museum, staging events in the Museum or visiting the pupils in school.  When she left us, she moved on to Norton Priory in North Cheshire.

Anne Wheeler

ANNE WHEELER was our Curator from October 2008 until March 2011. She was instrumental in acquiring the picture of Perdita at Nantwich Racecourse which is now on permanent display. Anne relinquished the post to start a new life in Ireland when her husband became Curator-Manager of the Irish Agricultural Museum, Johnstown Castle Estate and Gardens in Wexford Town.
