Photo Gallery . . . on Holly Holy Day at the Museum

WHILE a full Holly Holy Day programme - featuring local entertainment, stalls, horse and carriage rides, Civil War themed attractions, and the Sealed Knot (battle re-enactment group) - took place on Holly Holy Day (January 21, 2011), the Museum was contributing it own selection of events to mark the day. And we attracted 800 people during the day to see or take part in what we had staged.

And that was before the annual wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the fallen in the Civil War Battle of Nantwich and all wars since then took place in The Square, followed by the 40th re-enactment of the Battle of Nantwich on Mill Island. (See Page 2 of these pictures). The Museum's contribution began with walking tours of Nantwich with a Civil War theme . . .

The Museum's Community Learning Officer, Kate Dobson (right) outlines the town tour- one of two - that she was about to conduct. The group is standing by the recreated pillory which would later play a part in the Holly Holy Day events.

PUPILS of St Anne's School, Nantwich, and their teachers, took part in a parade called "Through The Ages", from the Museum to The Square, in costumes from various eras.

Each child received a goody bag, the school received a cheque for £500 towards computer equipment from the Rotary Club of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver, and three of the youngsters (right) received prizes for wearing the best costumes.

They were: best boy, Louie Leonard; best girl, Harriet Morgan (right); and most unusual costume, Isla Goddard (princess).

PJ the Showman (compere for the day's events on The Square) talks to a St Anne's pupil as other children and the headmistress, Mrs Brown, look on.

The Deputy Mayor of Nantwich, Cllr Graham Fenton, who judged the pupils' costumes, announces the winners, assisted by PJ the Showman.
