Flag day in town centre

THE annual flag day was held on Saturday, August 6. As well as street collections - with some collectors in costume - there was an information point in The Square, providing local people and visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the Museum's many activities.

Books and Plants sale brings in funds

THE annual Books and Plants Sale held on June 11 brought in £200 for Museum funds. Refreshments were also provided. Books that were not sold on the day can be bought from the Main Gallery of the Museum.

Pancakes event a great success

THE Pancake Day fund-raising event on Shrove Tuesday was a great success with £244 being raised. Many thanks to all volunteers for their work, and in particular to the ladies of the Inner Wheel.

Deana is the Museum's choice

FLOWER-arranger Deana Emerton received the Dutton Medal for "service to the community of Nantwich" at the Annual General Meeting of the Museum Trust.

She is pictured showing the medal to her husband, Gerald, a retired businessman.

As well as being renowned for her flower arrangements locally and nationally, Deana is also on a rota of Inner Wheel members who help out on the front desk twice a week  greeting visitors to the Museum. The club were invited to help by former Curator, Sue Pritchard, when a previous task they had undertaken came to an end. Deana was at one time President of the local club.

Robert Stones, who presented the award to Deana, said that for 10 years she had raised money for the Children's Society, quietly at her home every Christmas. He had been told by the Board of Management to describe her as "an all-round good egg and modest with it." He added that she was a "marvellous person".

Thanking the Board of Management for the award, Deana said she was very honoured to receive it. She described herself as a flower arranger who last year did work from Nantwich baths to Westminster Abbey. She said she would share the award with all the flower arrangers who worked with her.

Deana is a member of the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS) which marked its golden anniversary last year - hence the flower arrangements in Westminster Abbey. This year is the golden anniversary of the Mercia and North Wales area and she will be decorating all three storeys of their house as a fund-raiser for the Children's Society. The last time she did that, five or six years ago, she raised £4,500 for the society.

Deana has four major flower arrangements to undertake this year, including St Mary's Parish Church, Nantwich, in July.

The Dutton Medal (left) is produced annually by Nantwich-born medal designer Ron Dutton in memory of his parents, Walter and Ada Dutton, who set up a fund to honour people who work hard for the community.

Supper raises £2,000 for funds

THE Saleroom Supper organised by members of Nantwich Museum Trust at Peter Wilson Fine Art Auctioneers on February 10, 2010, to celebrate Nantwich Museum’s 30th birthday, was a fantastic success with over 100 people attending the event.

An entertaining talk was given by Robert Stones (managing director of Peter Wilson and Chairman of Nantwich Museum Trust) and a delicious supper was served. More than £2,000 was raised to support the Museum and the work it does.

We would like to thank Robert and all the staff of Peter Wilson for hosting us, the many volunteers who organised and helped at the event and everyone who attended.

Here’s to the next 30 years!

Some of the Volunteers at the 2005 AGM as they were addressed by the Chairman

THE Volunteers of Nantwich Museum Trust Ltd had their hard work recognised with the presentation of a John and Ada Dutton Medal. Museum Trust Chairman, Robert Stones, presented it to Mary Francis (second left) on behalf of all the Volunteers at the 2005 AGM. Mary has been a volunteer since the Museum opened in 1980.
