FLOWER-arranger Deana Emerton received the
Dutton Medal for "service to the community of Nantwich" at the Annual
General Meeting of the Museum Trust.
She is pictured showing the
medal to her husband, Gerald, a retired businessman.
As well as being renowned for
her flower arrangements locally and nationally, Deana is also on a rota of
Inner Wheel members who help out on the front desk twice a week
greeting visitors to the Museum. The club were invited to help by
former Curator, Sue Pritchard, when a previous task they had undertaken
came to an end. Deana was at one time President of the local club.
Robert
Stones, who presented the award to Deana, said that for 10 years
she had raised money for the Children's Society, quietly at her home
every Christmas. He had been told by the Board of Management to describe her as "an all-round good egg and modest
with it." He added that she was a "marvellous person".
Thanking the Board of
Management for the
award, Deana said she was very honoured to receive it. She described
herself as a flower arranger who last year did work from Nantwich baths to
Westminster Abbey. She said she would share the award with all the
flower arrangers who worked with her.
Deana is a member of the
National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS)
which marked its golden anniversary last year - hence the flower
arrangements in Westminster Abbey. This year is the golden anniversary
of the Mercia and North Wales area and she will be decorating
all three
storeys of their house as a fund-raiser for the Children's Society. The
last time she did that, five or six years ago, she raised £4,500 for the
society.
Deana has four major flower
arrangements to undertake this year, including St Mary's Parish Church,
Nantwich, in July.
The
Dutton Medal (left) is produced annually by Nantwich-born medal designer Ron Dutton
in memory of his parents, Walter and Ada Dutton, who set up a fund to
honour people who work hard for the community.
