Generous council grant will help our accreditation

WE are pleased to acknowledge a generous grant of £500 from Nantwich Town Council. This will go a long way towards paying for the window blinds which were necessary to reduce light levels in the Museum.

The blinds will protect and preserve exhibits and will help the Museum to retain its accreditation status. Responsibility for the accreditation scheme has passed to Arts Council England.

Accreditation requires that museums meet basic requirements on how they care for and document their collections, how they are governed and managed, and on the information and services they offer to their users.

Research Group on visits

THE Museum's Research Group - recently re-formed in its Friday morning slot - has visited Ford Green Hall, North Staffordshire, and Churche's Mansion, Nantwich, to learn more of the history. This is for their work on the main exhibition next year. Pictures of the visits appear here.

Arts and Craft Group revived

WE have revived the Arts and Craft Group which used to meet regularly at the Museum. The informal group's first project was to make items for the Museum Shop. They will also learn at workshops conducted by outside experts.  More

Could you be a Museum volunteer?

VOLUNTEERS are essential to the smooth running of Nantwich Museum. And we have more than 50 who help with all aspects of our activities, including front-of-house services and the shop; administration of the collections; research; education, including work with school groups; town tours; fundraising and more. We are now looking to increase the team with new volunteers. If you would like to join the team contact the Museum to discuss ways you could help. Read more about our volunteers here

They crossed the world to meet in Nantwich

TWO Canadians, on a family history discovery mission, decided to join one of the Museum's tours of Nantwich in the summer and found that fellow visitors were relatives of their neighbours. More

Can you display a poster?

Do you know somewhere that would take a poster for our exhibitions? A shop near to you? The village hall? How about your front window? Copies of current posters are now available on the Museum website. Perhaps you could print one (or more) and have it/them displayed in your locality.   More.

Museum mugWe're no mugs . . .

BUT we hope we know what our visitors would like as a souvenir of their visit to the Museum. New in the shop is a mug featuring the front of the Museum and one of the grandfather clocks we have on display.  More

We've reached our brooch purchase target  Hurleston brooch

AFTER launching an appeal to raise £500 towards the purchase of the Hurleston Brooch (pictured) we are delighted to announce that we have received funding and donations to cover the entire cost of buying the brooch.

The solid gold artefact is making an attractive addition to our existing displays. Previously, no brooches in the Museum's collection predated the 19th century.
