WHEN Sarah Egerton needed a Christmas card
robot making for a project she was involved in, she knew exactly where
to go for help. Kate Dobson, the Museum's Community Learning Officer,
who leads our workshops for children, was just the person.
Sarah said: "Nantwich Town
Council asked me to help organise events in The Square for them and I
wanted to begin with a New Year child-friendly recycling event. I came
up with the idea of a robot for youngsters to post their cards in.
"As a regular participant at
the Museum's workshops with my two girls, I knew how creative Kate
Dobson and the team were, and so I asked if they would be able to make
my robot during the Christmas workshop sessions. They very kindly said
they would have a go and provided me with a fabulous robot for the event
on January 7."
The Town Council had an
information stand on The Square and there were Christmas cards galore
for the recycling event. And for what the robot couldn't manage, there
was a silver recycling bin provided by Cheshire East Council.
Delighted children - including
two-year-old Bebe Egerton (right) - "posted" their cards in the
metre-high robot.
Cheshire East Council recycling officers were also on hand to run gift
box-making sessions as part of the event. And making sure everyone was
aware of what was happening was Nantwich Town Crier, John Parsons.
Kate Dobson said: "The idea of
the robot was to make the recycling a
fun event for children and encourage them to
recycle. Children who attended the Museum's two-day Christmas workshops
helped to decorate and turn this robot into the character he became."
